Recently, my friend and mentor Terry Milleralluded to Stephen Sondhiem’s Lyrics in “Sunday In The Park With George” in his blog post. The lyrics are about finishing the hat. Well, really they are about the artist’s psyche well in the throes of creation. Well as Terry and so many other artists before have done, I “have created a hat where there was none.”

I do realize I never posted #11, it was just some very sketchy portraits in my sketchbook of random people. You didn’t miss much. I am still a couple of days behind, I hope to catch up this week.

Day 10, not much time today so another portrait sketch. It is a lot of fun trying to get all the information down before the subject finishes their coffee or lunch. It is especially gratifying when you capture a good likeness.

Artist and friend Adele Earnshaw has organized a group of 27 artists and challenged them to publically declare their intention to create 60 works of art in 60 days working only from life. That is to say, not using photos, imagination or any other form of reference other than the real three dimensional world. The public part is that we, the 27 artists, have pledged to post these new works on a group page on Facebook everyday. So, omitions will be readily apparent. Our feet will be held to fire by each other and our own sense of shame in not doing what we said we would.

The great part for the art lover and patron is that these 60 pieces will be available to you the art lover and patron at very affordable prices. My first effort is posted below. I hope you will tune in either here or on Facebook to watch my progress and that of the other 27 fabulous artists. Happy Arting!

Well, another SEWE has come and gone. As always it was a wonderful event and show. I had a wonderful time with friends and family. Including an amazing dinner at a friend and patrons home. To get great food in Charleston you need not go to a fancy restaurant just find a friend who lives there and have them invite you over for a meal.

The art and show was amazing. I made some lovely new acquaintances with artists who were situated near near me. Perhaps not a banner year for sales but, the few I made were substantial enough to make it a successful showing. Thank you to those of you who purchased a drawing, I am thrilled to have my work added to your collections. There is no greater compliment for an artist than to have someone walk up, unbidden, and say they would like to take a piece of your work home with them. It still tickles me to no end every time it happens.

Thanks to the SEWE staff for once again putting on a great show and sale. I look forward to coming to Charleston every year.

There is some exciting news that I will be posting soon concerning new work. Details will follow in the next post. Basically there will be 60 new pieces in 60 days! Stay tuned to find out more!
