This is part of the current work on the board. Lots of heavy graphite in this one.

I will post more as the drawing progresses. I will also be sending this off as my second Birds in Art submission and it will also be available at the upcoming  San Dimas Western Art Show and Sale (April 23-25, 2010).

Dashing Through The Snow 10″ x 10″

This is the most recent drawing to come off of the board. It is sort of a final goodbye to Winter. I think many of us have had our fill of snow this year. Especially if you are from or have visited the mid-Atlantic region this winter. Hopefully an image like this will remind us that many places get along just fine with large amounts of the white stuff. And dare I say it but, snow can be quite beautiful.

I recently returned from the Galapagos Islands where I had a wonderful trip with my nephew Alex. I have enough reference material to work from for several years. It was as if the camera was permanently attached to my eye. I took almost 2000 photos in less than three days. I can’t wait to get started on work from the trip. I will begin in earnest as soon as I finish some work for a couple of upcoming shows I have at the end of the month.

I will put a post together outlining my trip to the Galapagos illustrated with some pictures as soon as I can.

No title for this work yet. I like its strong composition and the textures on the tree and bird. I still need to look at this with fresh eyes in a few days to make sure I don’t need to augment the rendering on those branches. Darker here, lighter there, more contrast or less maybe add a twig or two, one never knows what one might see upon a second look. If anyone out there sees something I should address in this drawing let me know. It is always nice to here other opinions.

Lion Down SOLD at SEWE in Charleston

Thanks to the many patrons who left Charleston with one of my drawings. It stills humbles me that people care enough about my work to hang it in their homes. To all of you, it means so much to me I hope you enjoy your new works as much as I enjoyed creating them. I hope to hear from all of you again soon.

To my friends and fellow artists, what a great weekend! Talking shop, photographing and eating with just an outstanding group of people… there is no better way to pass the time. Thanks for the house Robert! Thanks for the trade Tiff!  Mel, Lyn, V. I will talk with you guys this spring.

I will be leaving for the South Eastern Wildlife Expo in Charleston this weekend. The show is actually next weekend but, I will be visiting some friends and family in Baltimore first. I have several drawings waiting in the wings for the show. However, I think I will post just one more here. The rest you can see at the show or check the website during the show. I should have them all posted by then.

The following is a slight departure for me subject matter-wise. I usually stick to North American wildlife. But occasionally I will do an African piece if I have reference from the zoo that I can’t ignore.
